The supposed founder of Islam, Prophet Muhammad, was born in Mecca during, or around, AD 570. His father died before he was born, and his mother died when he was six years old. He was raised by his paternal grandfather. As he grew up, he became a camel driver and later a merchant. At the age of 26, he married a wealthy caravan owner named Khadija.

When he was forty years old and meditating in a cave outside Mecca, he received his first revelation from “God.” From that point onward, he continued receiving messages that he shared with his people. These messages eventually led to the formation of verses in the Qur’an, which Muslims regard as the divine word of “God.” Allah, the “God” of Islam, is the moon “god” of ancient pagan Arabia.

In spreading his religion of Islam, Muhammad supposedly murdered hundreds of people who did not want to become Muslims. After his death, Islam split into different sects.

Unlike the Bible, which was inspired by forty men from diverse backgrounds over a period of fifteen hundred years, the Qur’an is a self-contradictory book that was supposedly given to Muhammad by the angel Gabriel. In fact, the Prophet Muhammad could neither read nor write, so the writings were transcribed from the recollections of those who heard him.

Some other differences between Christianity and Islam:

Muslims (followers of Islam) believe in the Qur’an. Some obvious and illogical differences between Islam and Christianity include the following: Muslims believe that humans are born pure and innocent. Man is created by Allah and is considered sinless (Ravi).

In Christianity, sin is rebellion against God. Sin grieves God (Ephesians 4:30). In Islam, sin is generally understood as disobedience to Allah and a violation of His commandments. Although Allah is described as disliking sin and transgression, He is also described as merciful, compassionate, and forgiving toward those who repent. Does this make a logical distinction between the two religions? Isn’t God above the law? Why would sin be viewed merely as disobedience to established laws rather than as an offense against God Himself, who created everything and is above all creation? However, perhaps this distinction isn’t entirely accurate, as another source states, “Allah hates sin, but He loves sinners and is merciful and compassionate and forgiving to all those who come to Him in repentance” (Tawfiq).
