Peace and Safety Before Destruction

Peace and Safety Before Destruction

Have you heard the phrase, peace and safety before destruction? This is in reference to a passage in Thessalonians. Specifically, 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 says:

Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, Peace and safety, destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. (NIV)

The Day of the Lord has many definitions. One possibility is peace and safety before destruction means both before the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church (granted the Pre-Trib Rapture is correct in itself), and during the false peace seen at the beginning of the Tribulation. This coincides with Matthew 24:38 which states, “For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark (NIV).

This day, or span of days, is going to surprise deceived unbelievers and catch them off guard. Are we living in those times right now? It is certainly possible. President Donald Trump has talked about a “Golden Age taking place in America:

AI is god

The Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church could happen at any moment and cause absolute chaos:

Is the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church true?
God

Is the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church true?

Can an all-powerful God make people suddenly vanish? If He made everything around–and including–us out of nothing, then why does it seem impossible? I mean, He knows about every single hair on the heads of over eight billion people. The fact is it’s absolutely nothing for God to Rapture people and it will happen according to the inerrant God-breathed Bible that is totally accurate just based upon the prophecies that have already been fulfilled, among other reasons.

Can you imagine what would happen if millions of people, at the very least, suddenly disappeared? Civilization would cease to function and fear would consume the masses, especially with how fast information travels these days. Destruction would certainly ensue.

However one interprets the term peace and safety before destruction, it is clear believers should not be caught by surprise like unbelievers because of what the Bible says:

1 Thessalonians 5:4-11
New International Version

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Big events appear to be on the horizon. Things are brewing. The stage is being set for the events to occur in the last book of the Bible: the book of Revelation. The world is becoming increasingly darker. Destruction is coming. It’s not an if, but a when. In the meantime, we need to follow God and run to win the prize.
