Signs of the Times

Signs of the Times

Are we really near the end of the Church Age and approaching the end of this current world? People have been saying it for thousands of years and ever since Jesus was crucified we have technically been in the “End Times,” but are we really close to the grand finale?

Many people would say that this type of talk is negative and falls into the doomsday category. Many churches won’t even talk about the End Times. However, Jesus Himself said the following:

Matthew 16:3
New International Version

“and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”

Talking about the End Times can be negative but–for us believers–our hope is not in this world but should be fixated on what is to come. The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is positive news. For those who love this world, it is negative news. For those who want to hold onto this world, it’s probably not something he or she wants to hear about. Jesus also said the following:

1 John 2:15-17
New International Version

“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”

Furthermore, I don’t believe God wants any of us to only focus on the End Times by studying only Christian Eschatology. He didn’t create a Bible with 66 books for us to only focus on the 66th book. With that being said, here are just some signs we really are close to the entire fulfillment of the “Apocalypse of John.” If you think this is a bunch of nonsense here is short logical reasoning to help prove to you why it’s true:

God exists -> Christianity is True -> The Bible is the inerrant Word of God because an all-powerful God is powerful enough to create such a book -> The book of Revelation and other books must be True.

A sign I didn’t include is that the love of many will grow cold as mentioned in this Bible passage:

Matthew 24:5-14
New International Version

“For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

Just recently there was news about a woman being burned alive on a New York subway while nobody did anything about it. There are also many other examples like this of where people are growing increasingly colder. Just by observing my surroundings and living everyday, I do get the sense that there is an increased coldness in the world. I believe it will eventually get the point where even people at church who we thought had our back will turn on us. Some of these people will even be taking the “mark of the beast.” Needless to say, Jesus Christ is the only one who truly has our back.
